During most of the year, I take this kwanzan cherry tree for granted except for late April to early May when fluffy pink flower balls appear on the branches. My husband planted this tree in 2000. Since then, it has survived a freak snow storm in October 2011 when the heavy snow weighed down the top branches and caused them to permanently droop. It survived the next year during hurricane Sandy when the high winds caused state-wide tree damage and power outages. The poor tree looked pretty sad for a few years. Thinking of what it's gone through and that it's still standing and looking beautiful, I am so happy I can appreciate its beauty today. 🩷
